Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the CelestMap iOS app and the celestmap.com website (the “Services”) handle information. These pages are operated by the operator of celestmap.com. “We,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of celestmap.com.

This page is a consumer-facing description for App Store and website use. It is not legal advice and has not been certified by counsel for every jurisdiction.

1. Who this applies to

This Policy applies to visitors of celestmap.com and users of the CelestMap iOS app. Apple has its own privacy practices for App Store purchases, Apple ID, iCloud, and MapKit search.

2. No CelestMap account

CelestMap does not require you to create a CelestMap account, email, or password on our servers. We do not operate a CelestMap backend that stores your birth data, charts, reflections, or Ask questions for cloud inference. Chart calculation runs on your device.

3. Information on your device

Depending on the features you use, the app may store on your iPhone:

• Chart profiles you create (name, birth date, optional birth time, birth place coordinates and timezone)
• Sky Sit sessions and reflection notes; a 7-day rhythm derived from saved reflections
• Ask questions you type, and answers generated from your local chart history
• Readings journal, saved Current Sky snapshots (Pro), and preferences (appearance, house system, True/Mean Node)
• Subscription entitlement signals from Apple needed to unlock Pro

CelestMap does not use HealthKit. Practice notes and natal charts are app content, not health records. CelestMap does not request GPS “When In Use” or always-on location to draw a live sky. Birth place is what you type. When you search for a place, Apple MapKit may send that query to Apple so the app can resolve latitude, longitude, and timezone for natal math. We do not track your current location.

4. How we use information

We use information to:

• Compute a tropical natal chart, Sky Sit cues, transits, Insights, Ask, and related features on your device
• Remember preferences you set in the app
• Respond to support emails you send us
• Unlock Pro features after Apple confirms a subscription
• Comply with law and enforce these terms and Apple’s Standard EULA

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your charts or reflections for third-party advertising. We do not use an advertising identifier.

5. On-device Ask

Ask answers from your computed chart, placement, transit, or synastry context on this iPhone. On supported devices, on-device Apple Intelligence may explain facts already in a chart packet; otherwise CelestMap uses a deterministic knowledge fallback. Ask does not invent planets, signs, houses, or aspects. Questions and answers stay on your device. They are not uploaded to a CelestMap server. There is no CelestMap-operated AI backend.

6. Optional iCloud (Pro, off until you attach)

Free use stays on this iPhone. If you subscribe to CelestMap Pro and you attach Settings → Account & Sync while signed in to iCloud, saved chart profiles may sync via Apple’s CloudKit to your private iCloud container (iCloud.com.celestmap.celestmap) — not to a CelestMap content server and not to a public social graph. Continuity in this version is profiles only. Journal reflections and saved sky snapshots stay local. You can turn sync off. Turning it off stops new uploads; copies already in iCloud remain until you delete them in system Settings or in iCloud.

Restore purchases (Apple ID / StoreKit) is separate from restoring charts from iCloud. A Free reinstall does not restore local-only data.

7. Notifications

Optional local notifications (Sky Sit complete ping, and Pro Current Sky window alerts) use Apple’s notification permission if you opt in. Sky-window alerts default off. Notification copy is authored on device. CelestMap does not send promotional push from a CelestMap server.

8. Purchases (StoreKit)

Optional Pro is an auto-renewable subscription processed by Apple. We receive limited purchase or entitlement signals needed to unlock paid features (for example, subscription status). We do not receive your full payment card number. Apple’s privacy policy applies to payment data.

9. Analytics

CelestMap does not send usage analytics to a CelestMap server. We do not operate a third-party product-analytics SDK in the app. If Apple shares crash or diagnostic data with us under your device settings, we may use that to fix bugs. The marketing website may keep standard hosting logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and basic operations. If we add website analytics or cookies later, we will update this Policy and, where required, provide consent controls.

10. Support email

If you email support@celestmap.com, we receive the address and message you send (and any attachments) so we can reply. Include your iOS version and what you were trying to do. Do not send health information, full birth certificates, or other sensitive content you would not want in an email inbox.

11. Website

celestmap.com is a marketing and legal site. It does not host your in-app charts. Hosting logs may include IP address, user agent, and requested URLs.

12. Sharing

We share information only when:

• You choose to share (for example, the system share sheet or a chart PDF you export)
• Apple processes purchases, iCloud, MapKit place search, or device services you enable
• A service provider assists website hosting or email under confidentiality obligations
• Required by law, legal process, or to protect rights and safety
• In a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer (with notice where required)

Optional iCloud Continuity syncs profile data to your iCloud account under Apple’s terms.

13. Retention

Data you store in the app generally remains until you delete it, uninstall the app, or clear related iCloud data for copies you opted into. Support emails are retained as long as needed to resolve your request and meet legal obligations. Canceling Pro through Apple pauses Continuity attach; existing iCloud records may remain until you delete them.

14. Children

The Services are not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

15. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to a local-first app and a marketing website. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Use a device passcode and keep your OS up to date.

16. Your choices and rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information, or to object to certain processing. For app data on your device, you can delete charts or uninstall. For iCloud copies, clear CelestMap data in system Settings after turning Continuity off. For support-related data or other requests, email support@celestmap.com. You may also adjust platform privacy settings (iCloud, notifications, analytics, App Tracking) on your device.

17. International users

If you access the Services from outside the country where the Services are operated, your information may be processed where we or our providers operate, subject to applicable law. Optional iCloud data and MapKit search follow Apple’s processing.

18. Changes

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, provide additional notice where appropriate.
